Resting Up! Kaikoura

Household chores day today!
Did our washing which we hung on Del's improvised washing line.
After our usual breakfast (Weetbix), we crossed the road to the beach and wandered into town. It's a wild, grey-pebbled beach with coarse, black/grey iron sand at the water's edge - not for swimming! Nothing between us and South America!
We spent a while on a bench, looking out to sea like Darby and Joan,  agreeing with each other how lucky we were to be there.
Eventually arrived at Kaikoura's single main street - no supermarket or vegetable shop, just restaurants, cafes and souvenirs. New World was some way away so it's chicken and vegetable wraps for lunch.
The local delicacy, of course, is koura (crayfish) but, as we're not partial to most seafood, it's fish and chips for tea tonight!
Walked back to camp along the main road
and couldn't resist a shot of the hills we'll probably be tackling tomorrow! Ouch!

  1. Looks like you are going well and having great weather. Love the photos, almost like being there ourselves. Xxx

  2. Agree about main drag in Kaikoura, but a beautiful spot all the same. Good luck with the hills!

  3. Space! Grab some land and build - not as simple as that, but the views are amazing, and it is clean, has a designed feel to it, and so close to the sound and the mountains. Google Earth working overtime this end
